Five and a half years Fotomuseum Winterthur: Time for stock taking – with the first major exhibition from our collection and a benefit auction to support the Museum's continued success. The Fotomuseum Winterthur was opened on 29 January 1993 and has organized, up to this summer, 37 exhibitions, numerous lectures, talks and countless tours. A series of catalogues and books have appeared in parallel with this programme. Now, for the first time, we are opening the Museum's collection to the public, and in doing so would also like to underline the Museum's intentions.

Ranging from photography as art to photography as accompanying and formative documents of social, cultural and civil processes, the exhibition shows works from, among others, Nobuyoshi Araki, Richard Avedon, Lewis Baltz, Tina Barney, Richard Billingham, Victor Burgin, Larry Clark, Hans Danuser, William Eggleston, Nicolas Faure, Robert Frank, Jean Louis Garnell, Nan Goldin, Paul Graham, Andreas Gursky, Anthony Hernandez, Felix Stephan Huber, Peter Hujar, Axel Hütte, Seiichi Furuya, Urs Lüthi, Bertien van Manen, Liza May Post, Hannes Rickli, Pipilotti Rist, Christoph Rütimann, Günther Selichar, Joel Sternfeld and Georges Tony Stoll. Moreover, impressions from our industrial photography archive are included in the exhibition.
